DR. ORDON: One are the most common requests I get every day from patients is how to look refreshed without a face lift. Plastic surgery is not for everybody but how do you decide if it is right for you?
Bob was frustrated being told how tired he looked all the time so he decided to take action.
BOB: I am here today to have Dr. Nassif look at my eyes. I am concerned about bags under my eyes. People make comments to me like “Hey Bob you look tired!” or “Do you feel okay?”
BOB’S WIFE: After 40 years of marriage I never really thought that we would be sitting here and Bob would be going under surgery.
DR. MASSRY: We are going to start with the lower lids. All I am doing now is using cautery to flatten the fat pocket. I am going to mark under his lid with the incision site I am going to make.
It is interesting. I would say over the last ten years my practice has shifted from doing about 10% to 15% men to maybe 25% to 30% men.
DR. NASSIF: The most important thing when we are marking the upper eyelids is to have it look very natural. If you do it too high it may make the patient look too hollow.
Currently we are putting little stitches in the lower eyelid skin. This is an elevator, it is meant to lift off the tissue from his skull. We are lifting off the tissue from the bone and we will go down to just the top part of the nose. I am putting the endoscope underneath. The most difficult part of the procedure now is dissecting the tissue away from the nerves without injuring the nerves. After we do this, then we will start to secure the eyebrow again, it is called fixation.
This is the little implant that is going to actually attach to the tissue of the little bones. I am going to slide it into the small incision. We are closing the scalp incisions with a non-absorbable stitch which we will take out in about a week.
We just finished the surgery. It went great! The eyebrows, the upper eyelids, everything is very symmetric. The lower eyelid looks fantastic and I am very, very pleased with the results.
All in a day’s work! Right?
I have Bob and his surgeons, facial plastic surgeon and my colleague Dr. Paul Nassif, and Dr. Guy Massry, an oculoplastic specialist. Welcome everybody! (Applause)
All right Bob. I want everybody out there to look at your before picture. Okay? Now we are going to look at you today. We are going to compare the two and see how you look four months later. (Applause)
